Why I recommend Apple computers
My friends seem to think that I know a bit or two about computers, so they ask me about what kinds of computers to buy. These days, I pretty much only recommend Apple computers. Then I help people choose a machine that fits theirs needs -- and with Apple's product line-up that is easy. I even recommend Apples to people who insist on having to play games on XP -- with BootCamp and Parallels Workstation you can run the XP only stuff with little hassle and have the benefit of OS X the rest of the time.
A little over a week ago, my friend Dan Gross asked me about a good computer that he could do some decent audio recording with. I told him to get a 20" iMac -- it should suit his purposes well. And yesterday I got this mail from him:

Howdy Rob,
Despite the fact that FedEx left my iMac on my front porch while I was at a wedding in Vegas I managed to get it :) . Had it been a stick of gum on the front seat of my car it would certainly have been stolen, but somehow I lucked out. Thanks for the good advice.
I got the 20" and couldn't be more happy. It's like driving a new sports car after using a broken down Ford Pinto. Already recording music in the form of video, but I'm sure I'll move on to straight audio recording soon as well. Let me know the best way to zap you video/audio and I'll start sending you little musical nuggets.
Dan
That is pretty much the response I get from all my friends who take the Apple plunge. The others who don't take my advice end up asking me to help them with virii on their stupid Windows box. Fortunately I have no experience dealing with virii on Windows boxes, so I can just politely go tell them to find help elsewhere.

Only apple fanboys have to waste time bashing other OS systems.
A computer is a tool. What you do with it or need to do with it is the important thing.
And yes, ive been running windows systems for 10 years now with out a single virus.
OSX is a fine system but I would like to remind one of a few years ago before OSX even existed. Would you use any previous Mac OS?
Last time I was in the market for a computer, the Macs were WAY more expensive, and as far as I could tell, I had WAY too few choices for customization. Prof. Murphy has pointed out to me, though, that since then prices have come WAY down, and my perusal of their website indicated more choices than last I'd looked.
The only other thing keeping me away from Macs (if you don't count anticipated frustration at learning a new OS, which shouldn't count) was that if I need to work from home, I need to be able to run Windows. If I can *easily* run XP from a Mac from time to time... I think my next one will be a Mac.
