Toot your own horn
Slowly returning to the living
The first three months of this year have been quite brutal. It all started with agreeing to do a deal with MusicIP to provide acoustic fingerprinting for MusicBrainz. The idea was to announce everything at SXSW, which gave me 2 months time to move MusicBrainz to SLO, roll out loads of new features and then run off to blog ETech 2006. Up through leaving for ETech, I worked for 6 weeks without a day off, averaging 60-80 hours a week. Right after ETech, I released the fingerprinting features in MusicBrainz and went to SXSW. MusicBrainz exhibited at the trade show as a guest of MusicIP and together we issued a press-release. Then as the trade show started to wind down, I got to see a ton of crappy bands as part of the SXSW music festival.
Once I got back to SLO two weeks ago, I collapsed and slept for 10 hours per night for nearly a week. Right now I'm slowly crawling out of the zone where I don't want to do anything unless I absolutely have to -- hence me finally posting here after 2 months of silence. I apologize for this silence -- I'll try and keep this rectified.
In retrospect, this project was crazy -- too many things to do in too short a time period. I don't think I have worked this hard in over 10 years and I've forgotten what toll it takes on your body. From now on, hopefully I can steer my life so I can still make cool projects happen but not let them impact my health and sanity quite so much.
The really cool thing is that MusicIP paid me for working so hard. So now I have a little money that I can use to try and fix some of the harms that I did to myself. I'm hoping that a quick trip to Iceland will help with this. Expect some pictures from Iceland after the 22nd!
