Dumbshit Dept.

On how not to do business

So, the fine folks at San Luis Motorsports have finally found my blog entry lambasting their operations. Congrats, you guys are quick on the draw!

And of course they started sputtering anonymous insults in the comments:

"Don't your friends laugh at you when they find out you ride a scooter?"

Nope. Everyone has commented on how cool the scooter is. A number of people have asked me about it, and I've been sending them to the Honda dealer in Paso Robles. This scooter is a great product, but your bias towards motorcycles blinds you to selling these and making more money. But you just seem to care about selling $30k motorcycles and you don't give a shit about what your customers want.

The last time I was in your store, I refused to give my name for purchasing a pair of gloves. True. I find that private business that requires you to give your name for purchasing something on the spot is an invasion of my privacy. I have the right to choose whom I give my private info to. But then you found my resume online (you were intelligent enough to click on the 'resume' link -- well done!) and triumphantly exclaimed that you found my resume. Yes, you did - because I gave it to you. It was my choice to make that info public. Besides, it contains info you can find with Google, so you scored: nothing.

Back to the the principles of running a business. When a customer complains about your company, you do damage control. have you ever heard about the old adage that "the customers is always right". Going on the public record to insult your customers does not qualify as a smart business practice.

I was hoping that someone from San Luis Motorsports would contact me so we could have a meaningful discussion. I'm dismayed, but not surprised to have sophomoric insults hurled my way. My friends who have dealt with you in the past told me to expect this. So, if the owner of SLM would like to have a conversation over this issue, then please call me. You have my number.

P.S. Nice job on registering the hotmail account to talk to me. The last email I received said:

"When are you going back to Texas? They are looking for you, Jackass!"

Did I say sophomoric? I'm sorry, I meant childish.

Hey, I enjoyed your blog. I'm wondering if the owner ever contacted you, and if so, was anything resolved?? I was thinking of making a pretty major purchase there, but now i may be having second thoughts...

Also, i've heard that Steve (the owner) is a great guy, so it sounds like maybe he just has some a-holes working for him. Who knows.

I haven't had the chance to follow-up just yet -- sorry.

I would not recommend buying anything there -- you will be seriously overcharged. I would look around for other dealers -- I ended up buying in Paso, which worked out great. I checked around in the Ventura/Thousand Oaks area and there are many dealers who compete with each other.

If you have a truck to transport your new baby home, this is the way to go.

Good luck!

Damn...that was a fast reply. Hey, have you heard that your favorite salesman, Keith, is no longer employed at SLM??

Posted by: James at October 4, 2005 04:40 PM

WOW! No, I didn't hear that. That's a damned good start. In that case, I'd do some homework and find what a competitive price is.

Then go in and see if they dick you around. You can always go someplace else if they do.

Thanks for letting me know!

oh man..my roommate just told me about this site. i got enough dirt on the slm management/employees to shut that place DOWN! and yes, keith is no longer employed there....or married, for that matter. (heh, heh.) you and me need to share stories, man!

The other thing with that place is that they need to get the eye candy back in there - they used to have some cuties at the front desk...not anymore. zero personalities too. Even when they answer the phones they act like they're doing you a big freakin' favor to transfer you to a different dept.! I didn't realize that ~wasn't~ in their job description......

They had some tall, model looking chick cashiering for SLM at the expo a year or two ago. She didn't know much about motorsports...but she sho' could make a guy want to spend some cash in that joint. think i made 3 different purchases just for the chance to chat with her - ha, ha...

Note to management: if you're going to jack up your prices, at least make it worth my while to come in there.

after hearing a myriad of negative comments, i gave 'em a try on the FZ6 i'm gonna buy. i prefer the '05 model (b4 they blacked out the engine). the salesman (pronounced keel) was reluctant to "spend all that time" checking his computer for availability unless i placed a deposit. it was at this point that slm and i parted company. they are about 1/2 mile from my house. i would drive to oklahoma for a quart of oil b4 i'd spend a nickel with those pricks

to james and other misguided souls

steve, or whoever owns this den of thieves, is not only aware of the behaviour of his sales force...he is responsible for it. if he didn't establish policy, he certainly approved it.
it's nixon and watergate. if ya didn't know ...
YOU'RE GUILTY! it's your job to know.
i think i'm gonna go back and enter my e-dress and see if anyone has the cojones to argue that.

maybe the problem is too many buyers out there with more dollars than sense. can't be bothered with driving 30 miles either way for the savings and the experience dealing with an honest and helpful dealership policy.

thank you for building a forum where at least 1 buisness of this unfortunate mentality can be exposed.

if you're a potential buyer reading this ...
STARVE THE BASTARDS OUT!! go to paso or santa maria and buy it (whatever IT is). a business run this way must not survive.

for you creeps at slm ... i've included my e-dress. no need to be sneaky. e me. i'll call you.
i'll meet you. you deserve to be a page out of history.

San Luis Motor spots needs to realize that they are not the only dealership on this planet. I had read your comments before, but thought i should give them a chance. Sorry i doubted your word, i shouldnt have wasted my time or the $10 of gas to get there. I went there to buy a 2006 wr250, which i had researched online and had found many priced at $5200 out the door thru other dealerships in other towns. I called a week ago and spoke with Keith in sales about matching that price. He told me that he could match that price, and to come on down. I was unable to go until today. I had the wonderful pleasure of speaking with a Chode that looked like a guy with a goatee on crack. He had the personality of a wall. He was such a great fucking salesman, that he was too good to even introduce himself. He must have forgotten to pay attention during the communication class in sales training. I told him my price, cash, and he asked me how much more they were worth. More they were worth?? I said "what do you mean by that?" Crack head said, "well we have a nice showroom, you will get preferred parts and service for one year, and were local." I responded.. "so?" I could go anywhere to get parts or service. My price is 5200 out the door, take it or leave it. After briefly consulting with his "boss" he gave me a nod to come back to his desk. He stated, "that was quick and easy, i dont want to sell a bike to someone who doesnt think were worth anything." So, to summarize, appearantly if you dont worship the ground they walk on, you arent good enough for them to sell a bike to. Maybe they should realize that if they expect people to think so highly of them, that maybe they should attempt to be courteous and not overpriced assholes and maybe then they wouldnt have websites made just to bash them. Thanks for the website!
