Apple doctors G5 benchmarks
Normally I have lots of respect for Apple and their marketing department, but sometimes even they are a bit too $$$ focused. The new G5s are nice, shiny and are hyped to be the fastest desktop computer ever. That is until someone
took a close look at the details:
"Installed a high performance, single threaded malloc library. This library implementation is geared for speed rather than memory efficiency and is single-threaded which makes it unsuitable for many uses. Special provisions are made for very small allocations (less than 4 bytes)."
(Page 5, also see Appendix E, Page 26, Veritest PDF)
Apparently they pulled a bunch of crap like that, and the new dual G5s are far from the fastest desktop PC out there. Alas.
