$12k to get the RIAA off your back

Ok, this story is really sad and makes me fuming mad. The RIAA has to be stopped, this is going waaaaay too far. Jesse Jordan, a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute wrote a search engine that lets users search for files at Rensselaer, and the students used it to swap MP3s. Duh.

What bugs is that when the RIAA come knocking, Jordan just folded and handed over his life savings to settle with the RIAA out of court. Folding and giving up only encourages them -- fight them at every step. Don't give them a red cent!

Sigh.
